Welcome to the page that is all about who I am and what I like. After wading through all of this information, you should have a better grasp on what makes me tick. Check it out. You never know what you will find out.
Let's do a little Q & A. Or as I better like to refer to it as FAQ.
Q: What are the two things that take up most of your time?
A: That is an easy one. The top two things would be: my church and my job.
I am the Youth Minister at First Baptist Church in Bismarck, MO. I love working with our teenagers, helping them to have a closer relationship with God and showing them how they can live a life that shares His love with those around them. I also work with the Multi-Media Team there. We handle the various aspects surrounding the audio and video productions during our services (including our online broadcasts). We also take care of other technology related issues in the church such as networking, websites, and tech support.
I also work for the Bismarck R-V School District as the Technology Coordinator. I handle pretty much anything that has to do with technology. If a computer breaks, I fix it. If something doesn't work, I try to figure out why. If someone has a question regarding technology, I try to answer it. That is what I do.
Q: How would you describe yourself?
A: Here are a few terms that I might use:
Christian
First and foremost, I am a Christian. I'm not a Christian by birth or by where I live. I'm not a Christian because I go to church or because I am a Youth Minister. I am a Christian only because I have a relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ. He tells us that He is the only way that anyone can get to Heaven. Jesus promises us that if we make Him Lord (or boss, the one in charge) of our life and believe in our heart that He died on the cross and came back out of the grave on the third day (defeating sin and death), then we will have that relationship with Him that can not be broken by anything. Because of this, when my time comes, I will go to Heaven (the perfect place) for all eternity, living a life that is so awesome that it can't even be imagined by anyone here on earth!
Geek
Yes, that's right. I consider myself a geek. I almost have to just by the nature of my job. I go around fixing computers and answering tech stuff all day long. But also to add to that, here are some other things that I like that may convince you about my geekiness. I Geocache (Arrow74 and part of Team Lava Opossum, the first place team at the MOGA 2007 event). I like Weird Al. I know how to play and enjoy playing Minesweeper. I like to create webpages. I tinker a little with programming languages. I listen to Leo Laporte, the DGW, Munchcast, and other shows on the Twit network. I watch TV on my laptop. I make phone calls on my laptop. You can call me from my webpage
. I think Google is awesome. I have at least 5 different email addresses that I regularly check. I own an Atari 2600 and still like to play the Atari games. I have a Nintendo Wii, which I think is one of the most awesome game systems to ever be produced. I'm sure if you know me at all, you can probably add to this list, so please feel free to email me or call me with suggestions.
Traveler
I absolutely love to travel. I have been to many states and countries around the world. I have been blessed enough to spend two summers living in Ulm, Germany. I have also had the chance to travel to Belarus, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, and Canada. As far as states go, I could name them one by one, but I find this more interesting:
Most of the states in red above were visited because of travel with an organization called World Changers. This is a group of teenagers and their adult sponsors that travel around the country and help people in need. We will provide free labor to help put on new roofs, paint homes, build handicap ramps, and many other jobs, all for the purpose of sharing the love of Jesus Christ. During the summer of 2008, I will also be helping with a group of World Changers that will be coming to our area. They will be based in Bonne Terre, MO and spreading throughout our community, including Bismarck, to help minister to the people of our area.
Bismarck Fan
I like my hometown. I grew up in Bismarck, graduated from Bismarck High School (actually went there the whole time K-12), and now live and work in Bismarck. The Bismarck Indians are my team. I root for them no matter how their season is going. I am also helping proof-read a book about the history of our town called: BISMARCK: Hometown USA (written by my own mother!!). By reading this history, I have found out all kinds of cool things about this town and want to see it thrive again someday as it did in the past. I have also partnered with my sister to start a new service that can help the businesses and organizations of Bismarck gain a presence on the Internet.
HAM
I am a HAM Radio Operator. Many of my friends know me better as KD0GCY. I received my first ticket in January of 2009 and I currently hold a General Class License, but I hope to be upgrading to an Extra Class License soon. I am also a member of the Eastern Ozarks Amateur Radio Club. I can often be heard talking on our repeater that can be found at 147.030 with + offset and a tone of 100. I currently have an FT-2800 (2 Meter), an FT-60 (2M, 440 HT), and an HF rig. It is also kind of fun to see if you can spot the ISS (International Space Station) as it passes over our area. The ISS has a repeater on board and it is possible to use it to communicate. I have tried this with mixed results, but I still need better equipment than what I have to do it successfully. Below is a map showing were the ISS currently is. See if it is close to our area and (if it is dark and a clear night) look up and see if you can see it.
That probably about does it for now. If I can think of anything else to add, I will update it. If you have any questions or ideas to add, please let me know. -- Aaron
